digital hoarding
Heya! So... I kind of have a problem with digital hoarding. Specifically: Bookmarks. Over the years, I've accumulated a little over 5200 bookmarks - and that's on my desktop alone. My phone has another 3000 or so. Funnily enough, I never actually use any of them - I don't actively go through any of my bookmarks. I just sort of impulsively bookmarks anything I find mildly interesting. I suppose its the idea that I could look through all of them, that I'll never lose anything.
I do the same stuff with chatting apps - I save logs for pretty much every platform I use to communicate. I never actually look at them. I don't know, I guess I can't stand the idea of not having things archived, of not having control. To be fair, I have had a couple instances of friends just sort of deleting themselves off the internet without any warning. It always sucks. So, in that case its nice to at least have some records, and maybe being able to reach out again.
Another part, i think, is that Im a very disorganized person - I find it hard to keep track of stuff. So, If I just archive everything, I'll always be able to find what I need ...sooner or later at least. I think that's also one reason I've quite taken a liking to email as a form of communication, things are archived by default. Oh well. So far it hasnt exactly hurt me - apart from my mobile browsers bookmarks no longer really working most of the time. Which, hey, has gotten me to bookmark less stuff, so i guess thats good?
Anyways, I'll be leaving it off for here. I've been feeling pretty under the weather for the last few days, so I just wanted to get something out fairly quickly to get back into the habit of writing stuff. I'm still not exactly in the mood for writing 1.000 word essays, so this is what you get for now. Also, I'll be getting surgery in a few weeks1, so I might just vanish from the internet for a bit. Or post significantly more due to being bored in the hospital. I guess that'll depend on how I'm feeling.
Don't worry, it's for something fairly boring. I'll get two weeks off work though, which is pretty cool.↩
