the web is still really cool
I think the modern web has kind of lost touch with one of its greatest strengths: The ability to connect people.
Even with "social" platforms such as youtube and the like, it all feels so... Impersonal.
I know I've been saying this for a while, but I recently got reminded of it after coming across a blogpost made by Kawanami, talking about how they find it strange that so many non-japanese people seem to be reading their blog.
So, i reached out via email and we had a conversation. And that's fun, right? Without the indie web, I'd have never had the chance to talk to him. And I think it's kind of wild how we take that for granted. I've never really thought about how so many of the people I know live thousands of kilometers away from me. You just kind of get used to it.
And while the state of the modern web certainly isn't... great in a lot of ways, that aspect is still there, and I think it's really beautiful. The web is still awesome if you know where to look, there's still so much cool stuff out there, so many neat things to find and people to talk to. So often we only talk about the bad stuff. And I think talking about those things is totally valid and important, especially as stuff isn't exactly improving when it comes to internet freedom, but It's nice to be reminded that the good parts are still out there.
