My favorite posts I've written

Heya!
So, i just saw herman's Resurfacing posts, and figured that now is as good a time as any to talk a bit about some of my favorite posts I've made on this blog. That last time I did this was... what, like 80+ posts ago, i think? So, some things have changed in the meantime, meaning that I've got more stuff to say!

So, here's a couple of my favorites, in no particular order!

Mark, this is good news. We can finally be bees. This is good news, mark. You'll live for thirty years. This is good news. - I did this one for march's bearblog carnival, and it was really fun to both write, and re-read. It's a bit of a departure from what I usually talk about, but i think i did a pretty good job explaining what I find so funny about "we can be bees". Go and read it if you havent yet! It's fun!

Why Microformats are a good idea - I made this one as a sort of response to an argument I had with Krystal a while ago. And, I'd say I did a pretty decent job at making a case for microformats!

I do genuinely think they're a great idea, but indieweb folks sadly tend to be kind of terrible at marketing their tech. I've been meaning to do something similiar for webmentions as well, but it's just a tad more complicated to explain them in a way I'd be satisfied with, so I've been putting that off. It's a bit less immediately obvious how they're useful, even though webmentions are still very much a good idea. Just harder to explain to people who don't already "get it" so to speak.

Xenia, the transfemme foxgirl mascot that Linux could have gotten - This was my first attempt at a more journalistic sort of professionnal-ish essay writing style after getting inspired from reading "On writing well" (great book, by the way). I actually got some very nice feedback via email about this, and I've been meaning to do something similiar at some point in the future once again.

Fish: Find your true self - I really love the idea of doing format screws with bear. You can do pretty much anything via javascript on here, but by default the format is still constrained enough that these sort of wacky js experiments catch you off guard. It's very fun. This was actually inspired by a reddit post i found a while ago, where someone dreamed about basically exactly this sort of fish-testing quiz application. It was very fun to put together, and to come up with stupid questions for.

You should use PHP - I keep coming back to this one, it's just a very fun read. I rarely see people really making a case for PHP, despite how good it actually is as a language - I think i did a pretty good job in that regard. I really do honestly love PHP, and wish it had even just a bit better of a reputation. I actually got an email a while back from someone telling me that this post convinced them to use the language. So, i succeeded in my goal with this one! Which is nice.

Aaand, that's it for now! I hope you enjoyed reading this! Maybe I'll do another one of these once we reach like 200 posts or something. Who knows. Anyways, thanks for reading, and I hope you like some of these posts as much as I do!
